Those of us who have undergone some type of teeth whitening treatment, whether at home or at the dentist need to be aware of some important considerations, especially if we want to maintain the newfound whiteness and brightness of our teeth. Our teeth are an asset and something we have to guard and protect, even after we have undergone whitening treatment.
As a result you have to really stay on top of your diet. You have to make sure that you consume food and drink that helps support the healthy condition of your teeth. Given that you made an investment in teeth whitening, you really don't want to see all that money and time spent getting whiter teeth to go to waste.
If you fail to exercise care and begin to eat lots of food and consume drinks that contribute to tooth staining, such as cola, you will be in for an unpleasant surprise. If you don't heed common sense, then you can find that in a short period of time (maybe a within a month or so), to your horror and chagrin, that your teeth will start to stain again and develop a less than aesthetic color.
In the scenario where you exercise prudence in looking after your teeth post-treatment, the outcome is much better for you. In a lot of cases, within a year or thereabouts, you will require a follow-up teeth whitening procedure or at the least, a touch-up. This shouldn't be a concern for you as the cost of this is quite reasonable and at least if you do this you can help maintain a brighter set of teeth, something you have always wanted anyway.
Tips To Help Retain A Cleaner Smile
If you are serious about maintaining the new whiter and more pleasant color of your teeth there are some tips that will aid and assist you. By adhering to these tips you will help make sure your teeth stay as white as possible for the longest amount of time, a desirable outcome for your appearance.
The most obvious thing to do is steer clear from food and drinks that cause teeth staining. It is highly recommended that you avoid drinking black tea, strong coffee, etc. If you can't resist drinking these beverages then at least try to use a straw.
This will make sure the liquid goes directly into the gullet, thus by-passing the teeth. This way, you can still enjoy that delicious coffee or refreshing tea without detracting from your new look. You can have your cake and eat it too!
You should feel motivated to brush and floss as soon as you finish consuming such beverages and food. Sometimes, that may not be possible. So at the very least, rinse and gargle afterwards. If you are out and, for whatever reasons don't have the opportunity to gargle, make sure you do so the moment you return home.
I am sure we all firmly agree that diligence in daily oral hygiene is critical. Brush your teeth twice a day, floss at least once, or better still, twice daily. Not only will you eradicate the debris in your mouth and promote better oral hygiene, you will also keep your teeth white and healthy.
Another good tip is to make sure you use a teeth whitening toothpaste once or twice a week to help maintain your whiter smile.
Lastly, we recommend that you seek touch-up treatments to keep your whiter teeth intact. After all, retaining a whiter smile is most certainly worth it, isn't it?
